Privacy
What we collect and what we do not.
The short version
This site sets no cookies for visitors, stores no IP address and keeps no identifier that follows you from one visit to the next. It records which pages are read, in which market, from which country, and which Amazon links are clicked, so that we can see which pages are useful and whether the site works. That measurement is done by our own code on our own server, without any third-party analytics service.
What is recorded for a page view
- The path of the page, without any search text you typed.
- The market the page belongs to (US, UK, Germany or France) and the country your connection comes from, as determined by our hosting provider.
- The first two letters of your browser's preferred language.
- The address of the page that linked you here, if your browser sends one, and the kind of source it is, such as a search engine.
- Your browser's user agent string and the network your connection belongs to, used to tell human visits apart from automated ones.
- Whether the page was read for at least three seconds, scrolled or touched.
- A session key made by hashing your IP address together with the current date. The IP address itself is never stored, the key cannot be turned back into it, and it changes every day.
What is recorded for a click or an action
- A click on an Amazon link: which product, which part of the page it was on, and the price shown at that moment.
- Your choices in the finder, the filters and the sort order, and whether you added a machine to a comparison or switched market.
- For a search, only the number of characters typed, never the text.
How long it is kept
Individual records are kept for at most 180 days. Daily totals per market, country and page type are kept so that trends can be read; they contain no per-visit records.
Cookies
No cookie is set for visitors. The only cookie this site ever sets is in our own browser, when we sign in to the private statistics page, and it is used to keep our own visits out of the figures.
Third parties
The site is served through Cloudflare, Inc., which processes connection data, including your IP address, in order to deliver the pages and protect the site. Cloudflare's privacy policy applies to that processing.
Product images for Amazon listings are loaded by your browser directly from Amazon's servers, and when you follow a link to Amazon you leave this site; from then on Amazon's privacy notice applies. We receive no personal data from Amazon about what you do there.
Your rights
Because the records described above are not linked to an identifier that can be traced back to you, we cannot look up or export a record for a particular person. If you have a question about this page or want to raise a concern, write to Info@blackcedarmedia.com. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
