Compare built-in SFP+ and RJ45 connections with your switch and storage.
At a glance10GbE or faster
What decides this
Compare the exact installed network ports with your switch, cabling and other hosts. An optional 10GbE upgrade in a model's specifications is not proof that the offered configuration includes it. Faster networking can help shared storage, backups and host-to-host transfers, provided the rest of the path supports the required throughput.
Which models should you consider?
Compare these local configurations by price, connections and upgrade options. Choose the features you need; their order does not establish a performance winner.
For connecting a compact host to a fast local network. It has the lowest current UK price among these recommendations. Its 4 wired network ports offer more physical connections than the 2 on MINISFORUM MS-02 Ultra 235HX. Its 3 M.2 slots provide more drive locations than the 2 on MINISFORUM MS-02 Ultra 235HX; check which are already occupied. Choose it for replaceable RAM: 2 slots and a documented limit of 96 GB, subject to compatible modules. The recorded built-in network connections are 2x 10GbE SFP+, 2x 2.5GbE; useful for a suitably equipped NAS or host network.
Trade-off: Check SFP+ modules or RJ45 cabling, switch compatibility and cooling. A 10GbE port does not guarantee storage throughput.
For connecting a compact host to a fast local network. Compare its price with MINISFORUM MS-01; pay extra only for features you will use. Choose it for replaceable RAM: 4 slots and a documented limit of 256 GB, subject to compatible modules. The recorded built-in network connections are 10GbE, 2.5GbE; useful for a suitably equipped NAS or host network.

Before you choose
Only worth paying for if the other end can do it
A fast port helps only when the switch, cabling, other host and storage support the required throughput. Large transfers and shared storage are common reasons to choose 10GbE. Ordinary browsing may see little benefit; internet throughput can improve only where the connection and the whole local path can use the extra capacity.
SFP+ and RJ45 are not interchangeable
SFP+ uses a compatible transceiver, optical cable or direct-attach cable; RJ45 uses suitable twisted-pair cabling. Check cable category and length, module compatibility, power and cooling for the exact equipment. Cost and heat depend on the chosen components; do not infer either from the connector alone.
What to check before you buy
Confirm which ports are included in the offered configuration, not just optional in the model family. Check the exact network controller and current drivers for your operating system or hypervisor. Budget for compatible modules and cabling, and verify storage throughput before paying for a faster network link.
It can help large transfers, network storage, backups and communication between hosts. The benefit depends on the devices at both ends, the switch, cabling and storage throughput. It need not improve ordinary browsing.
What about SFP+ versus RJ45?
SFP+ takes a module and is usual in rack equipment; RJ45 takes ordinary network cable. Several machines here offer both. We print exactly which ports a machine has rather than a single speed figure.
Can I add 10GbE over USB?
Compatible Thunderbolt or USB4 network adapters may be an option, but check the host interface, adapter chipset, operating-system driver, cooling and independent throughput measurements. A USB-C connector alone does not establish 10GbE adapter support.
