APC Back-UPS Pro BX1500M, US plug

Part numberBX1500M

The short answer

Power-cut protection for a mini PC is the job of the APC Back-UPS Pro BX1500M (US plug), a UPS with 1500 VA, 900 W, five outlets and USB management. Its output is not pure sine, so check that your machine's power supply accepts what it delivers on battery before you buy.

Specifications

The 1500 VA and 900 W figures are the ceiling for everything you plug in together, so add up your devices and stay under them. Five outlets set how many devices connect directly. USB management means the UPS can connect to a computer over USB. The plug is the US type.

Which mini PCs it fits

A UPS has no slot or port standard to match, so fit comes down to your mini PC's power supply. On battery this model gives a simulated sine wave rather than pure sine, and the power supply has to accept that.

Examples with that same caveat are the HP Z2 Mini G1i, the Lenovo ThinkCentre M70q Gen 5 and the MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro. For each, check that the power supply accepts a simulated sine wave on battery.

Checked against every mini PC sold on amazon.com, from the specifications we hold for each machine.

Before you buy

The main limit is the simulated sine wave on battery: confirm your mini PC's power supply accepts it. For details this page does not give, such as runtime or battery, the maker's own page is the place to look before you order.

Common questions

Does the BX1500M give a pure sine wave?

No. On battery it outputs a simulated sine wave, so check that your mini PC's power supply accepts it before you rely on this UPS to keep the machine running.

How many devices can I plug into it?

It has five outlets and 900 W (1500 VA) to share, so keep the combined load of everything you connect within those figures.

Can my mini PC talk to the UPS?

The unit offers USB management, so it can connect to a computer over USB. The maker's own page has the full specification to check before you buy.
