The short answer

Lexar's NM790 2TB, part number LNM790X002T-RNNNU, is an NVMe SSD for a mini PC owner who wants 2 TB in an M.2 2280 slot. It reads at 7400 MB/s and writes at 6500 MB/s over PCIe 4.0, and it has no heatsink fitted.

Specifications

The drive holds 2 TB. Its sequential read is 7400 MB/s and its sequential write is 6500 MB/s. Those figures belong to a PCIe 4.0 drive, so a slot that only runs PCIe 3.0 will hold it back. It is an M.2 2280 NVMe drive, so it needs a matching M.2 2280 slot. The drive has no heatsink fitted.

Which mini PCs it fits

The rule: an M.2 2280 NVMe drive needs an M.2 2280 slot. The MINISFORUM MS-01, MSI MAX Edge AI+, ACEMAGIC F3A and ASUS ExpertCenter PN65 take it. The GMKtec G11 Plus, ACEMAGIC AM06 Pro and BMAX MaxMini B4 Ultra take it too, but at PCIe 3.0 speed in that slot. The Apple Mac mini (M5 Pro), Mac mini (M6) and Mac Studio (M5 Max) have no M.2 slot. We have not confirmed the fit for the GMKtec NucBox M5 Plus or the NIMO Mini PC Desktop AI Max+ 395, because we have not confirmed how many M.2 slots they have.

Before you buy

Check your machine's slot first: some of the machines named above run this drive at PCIe 3.0 speed, and the Apple machines have no slot at all. Lexar does not state the drive's endurance, whether it has a DRAM cache, or whether it is single-sided.

Common questions

Will the NM790 run at full speed in my mini PC?

It runs at full PCIe 4.0 speed only where the slot supports it. In the GMKtec G11 Plus, ACEMAGIC AM06 Pro and BMAX MaxMini B4 Ultra it fits but runs at PCIe 3.0 speed instead.

Does the NM790 come with a heatsink?

No. The drive has no heatsink fitted, so if you want one on it, you will need to add your own.

Can I put it in a Mac mini?

No. The Apple Mac mini (M5 Pro), Mac mini (M6) and Mac Studio (M5 Max) have no M.2 slot, and this is an M.2 2280 drive, so it has nowhere to go.
