Crucial P3 500GB

Part numberCT500P3SSD8

The short answer

The Crucial P3 500GB is an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD with 500 GB of capacity, made for a mini PC owner who has a free slot of that size and wants a modest drive. It uses PCIe 3.0, has a sequential read speed of 3500 MB/s and comes without a heatsink.

Specifications

At 500 GB this is a small drive, so plan around a modest amount of storage. The sequential read speed of 3500 MB/s comes over an NVMe PCIe 3.0 interface. No heatsink is fitted, so if your machine's slot has no cover or heatsink of its own, the drive sits bare.

Which mini PCs it fits

The rule is simple: an M.2 2280 NVMe drive goes in an M.2 2280 slot. The MINISFORUM UM890 Pro, MSI MAX Edge AI+, ACEMAGIC AM06 Pro and ASUS ExpertCenter PN65 fit it. The Apple Mac mini (M6), Mac Studio (M5 Max) and Mac Studio (M5 Ultra) do not, because they have no M.2 slot. For the GMKtec NucBox M5 Plus and the NIMO Mini PC Desktop AI Max+ 395, we have not confirmed it fits, because we do not know how many M.2 slots they have.

Before you buy

Crucial does not state the sequential write speed, the endurance, whether there is a DRAM cache, or whether the drive is single-sided. If your slot is tight, that last point is worth checking first. On the GMKtec and NIMO machines, confirm the M.2 slot count before buying.

Common questions

Can I use the Crucial P3 500GB in a Mac mini?

No. The Apple Mac mini (M6), Mac Studio (M5 Max) and Mac Studio (M5 Ultra) have no M.2 slot, so an M.2 2280 drive like this one has nowhere to go.

Does it come with a heatsink?

No, this drive has no heatsink fitted. Crucial also does not state whether it is single-sided, so check the clearance in a tight slot before you buy.

How fast is the Crucial P3 500GB?

Its interface is NVMe PCIe 3.0, with a sequential read speed of 3500 MB/s. Crucial does not state the sequential write speed, so we cannot give one.
