Crucial P310 500GB

Part numberCT500P310SSD801

The short answer

Crucial's P310 500GB, part number CT500P310SSD801, is an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD with a PCIe 4.0 interface and 500 GB of capacity. It suits a mini PC owner who has a 2280 slot and wants a smaller drive with a sequential read of 6600 MB/s. It has no heatsink fitted.

Specifications

Capacity is 500 GB, which suits a boot drive or a small second drive rather than a large library. Its sequential read is 6600 MB/s, a figure that belongs to PCIe 4.0 and will not apply in a slot that runs at PCIe 3.0 speed. It is an M.2 2280 stick with no heatsink fitted, so check whether your machine's slot has room or a cover for cooling.

Which mini PCs it fits

An M.2 2280 NVMe drive needs an M.2 2280 slot. The Beelink EQi13, Dell Pro Max Micro FCM2250, GEEKOM A8 Max and GMKtec EVO-X2 fit it. The GMKtec NucBox G9, ACEMAGIC AM06 Pro and BMAX MaxMini B4 Ultra fit too, but their slot runs it at PCIe 3.0 speed. Apple's Mac Studio (M5 Max) and Mac mini (M5 Pro) have no M.2 slot, so the drive does not fit. For the NIMO Mini PC Desktop AI Max+ 395 and ACEMAGIC AM08 Pro, we have not confirmed the fit, because the number of M.2 slots in those machines is not confirmed.

Before you buy

Crucial does not state the sequential write speed, the endurance, whether the drive has a DRAM cache, or whether it is single-sided. Some machines run the drive at PCIe 3.0 speed, so the 6600 MB/s read will not apply there.

Common questions

Will it run at full speed in my mini PC?

It is a PCIe 4.0 drive with a 6600 MB/s sequential read, but the GMKtec NucBox G9 slot runs it at PCIe 3.0 speed, so check your slot's generation.

Can I use it in a Mac Studio or Mac mini?

Not in the Apple Mac Studio (M5 Max), Mac Studio (M5 Ultra) or Mac mini (M5 Pro), because these machines have no M.2 slot for a 2280 NVMe drive.
