Crucial T500 2TB

Part numberCT2000T500SSD8

The short answer

The Crucial T500 2TB (part number CT2000T500SSD8) is a 2 TB NVMe drive on PCIe 4.0 in the M.2 2280 size, so it needs a free slot of that length. No heatsink is fitted, so check what your machine's slot provides before you buy.

Specifications

Capacity is 2 TB on a single drive, so one slot carries all of it. Sequential read is 7400 MB/s, and the interface is NVMe over PCIe 4.0. The drive is the M.2 2280 size, so the slot has to take that length. It has no heatsink fitted, so look at whether your machine's slot has a cover or heatsink of its own.

Which mini PCs it fits

An M.2 2280 NVMe drive goes in an M.2 2280 slot. It fits the GMKtec NucBox K8 Plus, HP Z2 Mini G1a, Lenovo ThinkCentre M70q Gen 5 and MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro. In the GMKtec NucBox M6, ACEMAGIC AM06 Pro and BMAX MaxMini B4 Ultra it fits but runs at PCIe 3.0 speed. Apple's Mac Studio (M5 Ultra), Mac mini (M5 Pro) and Mac mini (M6) have no M.2 slot, so it cannot go in. For the NIMO Mini PC Desktop AI Max+ 395 and ACEMAGIC AM08 Pro, we have not confirmed it fits.

Checked against every mini PC sold on amazon.co.uk, from the specifications we hold for each machine.

Before you buy

Crucial does not state the drive's sequential write speed, its endurance, whether it has a DRAM cache, or whether it is single-sided. Three of the machines above run it at PCIe 3.0 speed, and we have not confirmed the fit for two others.

Common questions

Does the Crucial T500 2TB come with a heatsink?

No, no heatsink is fitted, so check whether your mini PC's slot has its own cooling or space for one before you buy.

Can I use it in a Mac mini?

Not in the Apple models we checked: the Mac mini (M5 Pro) and Mac mini (M6) have no M.2 slot, and this is an M.2 2280 drive.

Which mini PCs run it at PCIe 3.0 speed?

The GMKtec NucBox M6, ACEMAGIC AM06 Pro and BMAX MaxMini B4 Ultra run it at PCIe 3.0 speed in their slot, while it is a PCIe 4.0 drive.
