Crucial T705 1TB

Part numberCT1000T705SSD3

The short answer

The Crucial T705 1TB, part number CT1000T705SSD3, is an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD on PCIe 5.0 with 1 TB of capacity. It is for a mini PC owner with a PCIe 5.0 slot who wants a sequential read of 13600 MB/s and is happy to arrange cooling, since no heatsink is fitted.

Specifications

Capacity is 1 TB. Sequential read is 13600 MB/s and sequential write is 10200 MB/s. Those speeds are what the drive offers on PCIe 5.0, and a slower slot holds it back. It is a bare M.2 2280 stick with no heatsink fitted, so cooling depends on what your machine provides or what you add.

Which mini PCs it fits

An M.2 2280 NVMe drive needs an M.2 2280 slot, and PCIe 5.0 speed needs a slot that runs at PCIe 5.0. The Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Ultra SFF Gen 2, MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro, MSI MAX Edge AI+ and ASUS NUC 14 Performance take it. The GMKtec EVO-X2, HP Z2 Mini G1a and Lenovo ThinkCentre M70q Gen 5 run it at PCIe 4.0 speed. Apple's Mac Studio (M5 Ultra), Mac mini (M5 Pro) and Mac mini (M6) have no M.2 slot. The fit is not confirmed for the GMKtec NucBox M5 Plus and NIMO Mini PC Desktop AI Max+ 395, whose M.2 slot count we do not know.

Before you buy

Crucial does not state the drive's endurance, whether it has a DRAM cache, or whether it is single-sided. Three of the machines above cap it at PCIe 4.0 speed. Check your machine's cooling or bring a heatsink, since none is fitted.

Common questions

Will it run at full speed in my mini PC?

Only in a slot that runs at PCIe 5.0. The GMKtec EVO-X2, HP Z2 Mini G1a and Lenovo ThinkCentre M70q Gen 5 take it but run it at PCIe 4.0 speed.

Does the T705 come with a heatsink?

No, no heatsink is fitted. Check whether your mini PC has its own cooling over the M.2 slot, or plan to add a heatsink yourself before you install it.

Can I put it in a Mac mini?

No. The Apple Mac mini (M6), like the Mac mini (M5 Pro) and Mac Studio (M5 Ultra), has no M.2 slot, so an M.2 2280 drive has nowhere to go.
