Kingston KC3000 4TB

Part numberSKC3000D/4096G

The short answer

Kingston's KC3000 4TB (part number SKC3000D/4096G) is an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD on PCIe 4.0 with 4 TB of capacity. It suits a mini PC owner with a free M.2 2280 slot who wants a lot of storage in one drive, and it has no heatsink fitted.

Specifications

The main number is capacity: 4 TB in a single drive, which saves you from spreading files across several smaller ones. The interface is NVMe over PCIe 4.0, so the full speed of the drive needs a slot with that interface, and in a PCIe 3.0 slot it still works but at the slower speed. No heatsink is fitted, so check how your machine cools its M.2 slot before you install it.

Which mini PCs it fits

An M.2 2280 NVMe drive goes into an M.2 2280 slot. It fits the ASUS ROG NUC, BOSGAME M5, Beelink EQR6 and Dell Pro Max Micro FCM2250. It also fits the ACEMAGIC S1, BMAX MaxMini B4 Ultra and Beelink EQ14, but their slot runs it at PCIe 3.0 speed instead of PCIe 4.0. The Apple Mac Studio (M5 Ultra), Mac mini (M5 Pro) and Mac mini (M6) have no M.2 slot, so it does not fit them. For the GMKtec NucBox M5 Plus and NIMO Mini PC Desktop AI Max+ 395 we have not confirmed the fit, as we do not have their number of M.2 slots.

Before you buy

Kingston does not state the drive's sequential read, sequential write, endurance, DRAM cache or whether it is single-sided. Beyond that, the ACEMAGIC S1, BMAX MaxMini B4 Ultra and Beelink EQ14 limit it to PCIe 3.0 speed, and any machine with no M.2 slot cannot take it.

Common questions

Does the KC3000 4TB work in a PCIe 3.0 slot?

On the ACEMAGIC S1, BMAX MaxMini B4 Ultra and Beelink EQ14 it fits, but the slot runs it at PCIe 3.0 speed rather than the PCIe 4.0 the drive is built for.

Can I put it in a Mac mini?

No. The Apple Mac mini (M5 Pro) and Mac mini (M6) have no M.2 slot, so this drive does not fit them, and the Mac Studio (M5 Ultra) has none either.

Does it come with a heatsink?

No heatsink is fitted to this drive, so check how your mini PC cools its M.2 slot, or whether there is room to add a cover, before you install it.
