The short answer

The WD_BLACK SN770M 2TB from Western Digital (part number WDBDNH0020BBK-WRSN) puts 2 TB of NVMe storage on PCIe 4.0 into the short M.2 2230 format. It is for a mini PC owner whose machine has a slot that takes 2230 drives.

Specifications

Capacity is 2 TB on a card in the compact 2230 size. The drive speaks NVMe over PCIe 4.0 and has a sequential read of 5150 MB/s. To get that read speed, the slot you install it in should support PCIe 4.0, since a slower slot would hold the drive back. No heatsink is fitted, so the drive arrives bare.

Which mini PCs it fits

The rule is simple: an M.2 2230 NVMe drive needs an M.2 slot that takes 2230, not just any M.2 slot. The Beelink ME mini is a machine it fits. The MINISFORUM MS-S1 Max, MSI MAX Edge AI+ and ACEMAGIC AM06 Pro do not take it, because each machine takes 2280 rather than 2230. For the ACEMAGIC AM08 Pro and GMKtec NucBox M5 Plus we have not confirmed the fit, because we do not know how many M.2 slots they have.

Checked against every mini PC sold on amazon.co.uk, from the specifications we hold for each machine.

Before you buy

Western Digital does not state the sequential write speed, the endurance, whether the drive has a DRAM cache, or whether it is single-sided. The main limit is length: this is a 2230 drive, so a machine that takes only 2280 cannot use it. Confirm your slot size before ordering.

Common questions

Will the WD_BLACK SN770M fit a mini PC with an M.2 2280 slot?

This drive is M.2 2230, and a machine that takes 2280 rather than 2230, such as the MINISFORUM MS-S1 Max, does not fit it, so check your slot length first.

How fast is the WD_BLACK SN770M 2TB?

Sequential read is 5150 MB/s over NVMe on PCIe 4.0, but Western Digital does not state the sequential write speed, so only the read figure is confirmed.

Does the WD_BLACK SN770M 2TB fit the Beelink ME mini?

Yes. The Beelink ME mini takes this M.2 2230 NVMe drive, so it is one of the machines this SSD is confirmed to fit.
