APC Back-UPS BX1600MI

Part numberBX1600MI

The same part under other regional numbers: BX1600MI-GR, BX1600MI-FR

The short answer

The APC Back-UPS BX1600MI is a UPS with 1600 VA and 900 W of capacity, for a mini PC owner who wants the machine kept running when mains power drops. It has six outlets and USB management, but its output is not a pure sine wave.

Specifications

The 1600 VA and 900 W figures set how much you can plug in. The mini PC, monitor and any extras should stay within 900 W together. Six outlets leave room for those without a separate power strip. USB management is supported, so the UPS can be connected to a computer over USB. The output is not a pure sine wave, which matters when the unit is running on battery.

Which mini PCs it fits

A UPS has no socket or slot to match. The rule is about power: on battery this unit gives a simulated sine wave, so the mini PC's own power supply has to accept that. Machines we can name are the MINISFORUM MS-S1 Max, the MSI MAX Edge AI+ and the NIMO Mini PC Desktop AI Max+ 395. Each carries the same caveat, so check its power supply before relying on the UPS. We have not confirmed a clean fit, with no caveat, for any machine.

Checked against every mini PC sold on amazon.co.uk, from the specifications we hold for each machine.

Before you buy

The main limit is the output. On battery it is a simulated sine wave, and every machine named above carries that caveat, so check the power supply before buying. The maker's own product page is the place to check other details.

Common questions

Does the BX1600MI give a pure sine wave?

No. The BX1600MI does not give pure sine output, and on battery it produces a simulated sine wave, so check that your mini PC's power supply accepts it.

How much can I plug into it?

It is 1600 VA and 900 W with 6 outlets, so keep the combined load of the mini PC and accessories within 900 W and the number of outlets.

Can it connect to my computer over USB?

Yes, it supports USB management, so it can be connected to a computer over USB. Also check that your mini PC's power supply accepts its simulated sine wave on battery.
