TP-Link TL-SG108-M2

Part numberTL-SG108-M2

The short answer

Eight 2.5GbE ports in a fanless, unmanaged box: the TP-Link TL-SG108-M2 is a network switch for a mini PC owner who wants to wire several machines or devices together at 2.5GbE. It has no 10GbE or SFP+ ports and no PoE, so it suits a plain desk or shelf setup.

Specifications

All eight ports run at 2.5GbE. There are no 10GbE ports and no SFP+ ports, so the switch has no faster uplink. It is unmanaged, which means no settings to configure and nothing to log into. It is fanless, so the switch has no fan of its own. Its PoE budget is 0 W, so it will not power other devices over the network cable.

Which mini PCs it fits

A switch does not plug into a mini PC the way a drive does. What decides the match is the LAN port on the machine, because every port on this switch is 2.5GbE. So the question for each mini PC is the speed of its own LAN port.

For the ACEMAGIC AM06 Pro and the ASUS ExpertCenter PN65, we have not confirmed it fits, because we do not have the LAN speed of either machine. Check that figure in your machine's specifications before you buy.

Checked against every mini PC sold on amazon.co.uk, from the specifications we hold for each machine.

Before you buy

We have not confirmed the fit for the ACEMAGIC AM06 Pro or the ASUS ExpertCenter PN65, because the LAN speed of each is missing. The switch is unmanaged, has no 10GbE or SFP+ ports and provides no PoE, so look elsewhere if you need any of those.

Common questions

Is the TL-SG108-M2 a managed switch?

No. The TL-SG108-M2 is unmanaged, so it is a plug-in switch without management features, with eight 2.5GbE ports and no 10GbE or SFP+ ports.

Does the TL-SG108-M2 have a fan?

No, it is fanless, so the switch has no fan of its own, which suits a desk or shelf beside a mini PC.

Can the TL-SG108-M2 power devices over PoE?

No. Its PoE budget is 0 W, so it cannot power cameras or access points over the cable; those devices need their own power supply.
